Picard, Jean-Luc, Captain

Captain of the enterprise in THE NEXT GENERATION. He is played by Patrick Stewart. His serial number is SP 937 215. His parents are Yvette and Maurice Gessard Picard, and he has a brother, Robert. Prior to duty on the Enterprise, Picard served 22 years on the STARGAZER. Born in Paris, France, his hobbies include history and archaeology. He also likes to practice on the Resican flute he brought back with him in the episode "The Inner Light." He likes to read detective fiction, is a drama fan (especially of Shakespeare), and has been known to take an art class (part of the plot in "A Matter of Perspective"). A fair man and a decisive leader, he is very good friends with Dr. Crusher, with whom he has breakfast every morning. Another close friend is Guinan, to whom he can reveal indecision, pain, and his personal opinions, traits a captain cannot or should not reveal to his crew. He likes caviar and Earl Grey tea. He has an artificial heart because he was stabbed by Nausicaans while at the Academy (seen in "Tapestry"). He also loves horseback riding (he owns his own saddle), and won a running marathon at the Academy when he was a cadet. He is also a good fencer. His quarters are on deck 9, #3601.
