First Officer of the Enterprise in The Next Generation and played by Jonathan Frakes. Often called "Number One" by Picard, he is not only second-in-command, but commands the away team missions from the ship. He was born in Valdez, Alaska, to Kyle Riker and was supposedly 32 by the fourth season of TNG. His mother died when he was very young so he never knew her. He and Deanna Troi were once lovers, when he was a psychology student and junior officer, but now they are only friends. He came to serve aboard the Enterprise when it picked him up at Farpoint Station in "Encounter at Farpoint." His quarters are located on Deck 8, 0912. He has been offered command of his own ship several times and turned it down because he enjoys working on the Enterprise too much. Riker's code is "Theta Alpha 2737 Blue, Enable." He served as a first officer under Captain DeSoto on the Hood. He is a master poker player.
